Making the Decision to Tryout for Cheerleading

Hi, my name is Lucy Spain on behalf of Expert Village here to talk about an introduction into cheer leading. The first thing you need to think about is to whether or not you should tryout for a cheer leading squad. It's a very important decision and a lot of factors are going to filter in to whether you should do it or not. First and foremost, I would recommend making sure you have your parents approval especially if you are at the Middle School or High School age, cheer leading is going to take up most of your time. You're going to need rides to and from practice and also you're going to need rides to the games so it's really important to make sure your parents are 100% behind you in your decision. You should also make sure that your academic grades are where they should be so you can dedicate after school hours to your cheer leading practice. You should also make sure that you want to cheer for the right reasons personally. Do you want to cheer because it's something your heart is in? Or you do you just want to parade around school in your cheer leading uniform and be popular and the stereotypes that go along with it? Cause that is really not a reason why you're going to want to cheer for. Also it's important to make sure that you're comfortable with males on your same sports team cause a lot of cheer leading squads are going to be coed. So it's important to think about that, I would recommend making a checklist for yourself making 2 columns of the reasons why it would be beneficiary to you. So definitely write out your options discussing with your peers and your mentors decide whether or not you want to cheer for the right reasons.
