How to Create Ripples When Cheerleading

Hi, I'm Lucy Spain on behalf of Expert Village. I'm going to show you some cheer leading squad cheers today. We're going to talk about chants, and I'm going to demonstrate some that you can take to your squad. Now something we can add to our cheers and our motions to make it a little more interesting are what we like to call ripples. Now a ripple is basically going to be a continuous flow of motion that's timed on different words or pauses in words. We're all familiar with the basic wave that people do at games. That's the basic principle of what a ripple is. Now, an example of ripples, you can either be in clusters (we could have three girls that go on one trigger word) or it can be each individual for them self. Now an example of a motion that we would do during a ripple would be, say the cheer words are G-R-E-E-N. Each person will be assigned a letter. Now it's really important to know if you're supposed to go on the actual letter or on the pause. Sometimes we'll have enough groups to where we can go on the letter and the pause to make it a little more fast and a little more interesting. An example of a ripple motion would be, if I was supposed to go on the letter R, G-R-E-E-N and everyone is going to go on a different letter so we're going to have a really cool range of motion going on during that. Now it's really important to make sure you're sharp and you go exactly on your letter. It's also important to make sure you say the words. If I wasn't supposed to go until the letter N, I would stand here and say G-R-E-E-N. So it's really important to make sure that you pay attention and say the words even though that's not the ripple that you go on.
