Money & Credit Cards for Peru Travel

SONJIA CUHER: On behalf of Expert Village, this is Sonjia Cuher. What to take, what credit cards to take, okay? Once you have your travel bag, you have your passport and you have your copy, credit cards are widely accepted all over Peru. You can take your Visa, your MasterCard, American Express, and something that's very important, it's your ATM card. Of course, travel cheques are welcome. Cash is the preferable way to go, but let me tell you, you can take your ATM card, there are some ATM machines all over, believe it or not. You can go to a really small village up in the jungle and you're still going to be able to use your ATM. For like a dollar and a half, you can withdraw up to 300, and that way, you don't have all the cash in your hand. Big hotels, airlines, big establishments will take credit cards. Small places, street vendors, of course, just cash. So it's always a good idea to write all the numbers down in case you lose them and once again, put everything in your travel--I mean your travel bag and just carry a little bit of cash in your hand. You don't need to take something that big. This is kind of awkward. But if you have your fanny pack in front of you, just take $10 or things like that that you are going to use for lunch or whatever, because when you go to establishment and you have to pay for airline or a tour, anything, then you can take out your credit cards without a problem. Remember, credit cards and passports, they have to be together because every time that you try something, they're going to ask you for identification and you have to have them together.
