Hi! My name is Tine Buechler from Business Growth Training and I am here today on behalf of Expert Village.com. In this clip we are going to talk about developing your 30 second promo. I’ve heard it called your elevator speech and all sorts of different things but in the process of job search, you need to develop a sound bite about you, your skills and your qualifications and the kind of position that you are looking for. Statistically, over the years, I’ve heard anywhere from 75 to 95 percent of the jobs that are available in the job market aren’t advertised. That means that they are not available through the paper, you are not going to find them on job banks and you’re not going to find them listed anywhere. What happens is companies talk to people they know and say, we are looking for somebody. Do you know anybody? You want to be able to access that job market and the way to access that job market is actually through your 30 second promo. The 30 second promo includes your name, your background and your background includes any key skills that you have to offer, specific education and experience that you have to offer, again that markets you to your goal. So you say your name, your background and the kind of work that you are looking for. Work through it a couple of times, practice it a couple of times so that it comes across smoothly. Many people have a great deal of difficulty talking about themselves and talking about themselves properly and confidently. We are very competent in our ability to do the job. We can be very confident that I am a very good accountant but that doesn’t mean that I am confident talking about myself being a good accountant. That is a very different set of skills and if we go back to being self-employed in commissioned sales, one of the key skills in selling is to deliver a sales presentation that is confident. I’d buy your confidence. When you are talking about yourself and if you are stumbling because you just don’t know what word to use or you’re uncomfortable talking about yourself, that lack of confidence talking about yourself could be transferred to somebody believing that you are not confident in your skills. It’s unfortunate but that’s what could happen. So what you want to do is create a 30 second promo. Practice it in front of a mirror. That will help you in your delivery and you need to practice it out loud. What happens in your mind often doesn’t come out your tongue quite the same as you had planned. So you need to practice it out loud. So what you are looking for again, “Hi! My name is, my background is, my skills are and my education is and the kind of work I am looking for is.” When you develop this promo you can use it when you are talking to people about the fact that you are looking for work and then these employers or these people that you talk to can give you access to that hidden job market. Things that they know about but didn’t tell you because they did not know you were looking for work.
