How to Cut Straight Lines for Stained Glass

On behalf of expertvillage.com, my name is Allison at Western Art Glass. In this step I'm going to show you how to cut glass. We are not really going to cut glass we are actually going to be using a glass cutter. We are going to score the glass which means we are going to weaken it and then we are going to snap it which in turn it would cut the glass or break apart. People really call it cutting glass but it is really called scoring. If you never cut glass before you should actually practice on some window glass before you attach your beautiful art glass. Just in case this is inexpensive, sometimes it is free. Sometimes it is a broken window so like I said it is free. Anyway you have your glass cutter, your running pliers and your needle nose. Don't forget your eye protection it is very very important. The first thing you are going to do is you are going to listen for the sounds of paper tearing. Okay not really seeing a whole lot okay you can barely see a hair there. These are called running pliers, put the groove or the notch there on the score line. Do barely a squeeze and push down. I fun was that? Next thing you want to do is you want to get those glass pattern pieces away from each other before you try to cut them out. So that is the first step, straight lines are your friends. On the next step I would show you how to cut shapes so check it out.
