JOEL SIEGEL: All right. So, the next beat, beat two, just like most of our popular rock tunes, we have two and four on the snare, okay? So, two is going to come with that hit on the snare. Just like that. One, two, three, four. One, two, three. Okay? So, the first--a little bit of the first two beats sounds like this. Okay? So, you hit your high hat and your snare together like the usual, with the two and four and then there's another curve ball. Well, right after that beat two, you have the sixteenth note upbeat "e", okay? So, two-e-and-a. So, it's just right after that snare hit and in between your eighth note high hats, you're going to have to kick drum, okay? So, I'm playing just the high hat and the kick drum. I'll play the eighth notes with just that one sixteenth note; two-and, three-and, four-and, one-and, two--sorry, I messed up. One-and, two-and, okay? Two-e. One-and, two-e. Okay? When you play it fast, it really flies by but that's what's going on. So, it's two-e-and. All right? So, I'm just playing that beat two and leaving out beat one. It's just the snare, high hat and the kick. Okay? And then the same thing. Remember what we did with that anticipation at the very end of four going into one? That's actually going to come up again right after that "e" of two and you're going to end up playing the "a" of two as well because the beat is really only two beats and it's over and over again. Okay? It's just like--it's literally beat one and two that's just looped. So, you have that "e" of two and then you're going to have that "a" again to anticipate the three just like we had the "a" anticipating the one at the very beginning of the beat, all right? Go to the next clip and we'll talk a little bit more.
