JOEL SIEGEL: Okay, so beat three. Not a lot is going on. You have the kick on the upbeat. Okay, you still have your sixteenth notes on the hi-hat, three-e-and-a. And uh, you have a hi-hat lift on the upbeat, okay? And so far, all these lifts have been those short durations, the sixteenth note durations to where you hit say on downbeat and you close on the "e," right? So one-e-and-a, okay? This lift is going to be different. It's going to be an eighth note lift on the upbeat of three. So, instead of coming down on the up of three like the sixteenth note directly following that upbeat, you're just going to bring it down to four and you're going to get that longer, that more sustained hi-hat lift, three and four. Okay? As compared to [PLAYS HI-HAT LIFTS], okay? You hear the difference in the duration of those hi-hats? That's- that's kind of what this beat helps to accentuate and kind of bring to life in working on those lengths and coordinating your left foot with the rest of the kit. We'll finish out the beat with beat four and put it all together in the next clip.
