JOEL SIEGEL: All right, so beat two is--it's the same concept. You're going to have those short lifts in the hi-hat and all that's happening is you have the sixteenth notes going into hi-hat and you have the upbeat and the kick and that lift also on the upbeat of two, okay? So it's going to be one-e--oh sorry, two-e-and-a. So, and-a, you have the left hand as well as the left foot coming down, two-e-and-a, two-e-and-a and you have a kick hit on down-sorry, that upbeat of 2 as well, 2 e and a. Okay? So it's that quick lift that we're talking about. So the first two beats, when you put them together, okay? One-e-and-a, two, and-a, okay? So this not easy, so it takes some time to work on it. Like I said, it's the coordination between your kick drum and your hi-hat. Okay? And also getting your hi-hat to kind of cooperate with your left hand, sometimes that's an issue, so you have one-e-and-a, let's see. Uh, yeah, one-e-and-a, two-e-and-a. Right. So they're going to hit, because that upbeat of the second beat, you have that hi-hat lift on the upbeat and so you're going to come down on the following sixteenth note, that a. So, as far as you're left foot, the first two beats are one, yeah, one-e-and-a, two-e-and-a. Okay? And that gives you the sound. Okay? So making that line out with the left hand, it can be tricky a little bit because these guys aren't always friends. So, make them friends and we'll talk about the last two beats of the bar and of the beat.
