JOEL SIEGEL: All right, we're going to talk about a beat that I like to play. It's Beck. I don't really think he played the drums--he probably did actually play the drums, I assume. It's called "New Pollution" or "The New Pollution." It's off of Odelay. This is a fun beat. It's like--I don't know; it's kind of up-tempo. It's got like a party kind of dance feel to it. It's still like pretty rocking and driving. So we're going to break this down basically as far as the elements that we're going on. It's actually--it's pretty basic like most of your coordination stuff. You have like only eighth notes in the kick drum and just the straight eighths in the hi-hat. It's got that new sound. So this is a cool beat to play if you're like kind of trying to learn how to kind of control the sound, control the distance in the cymbals with your left foot to kinda get a good idea of how to maintain that, and then into the snare you got kind of an alternate pattern with the two. It's not like you're straight two and four; you got like kind of other stuff going on so that didn't happen a lot. So it's kinda cool to look at for something new and different and something to learn. So we'll go down and kinda break it down beat by beat. Check it out.
