Overview of Drums for "I Can't Help Myself" by the Four Tops

JOHN SIEGEL: We're going to go ahead and talk about some Motown beats. The songs that we're going to talk about specifically is "I Can't Help Myself." This is by The Four Tops also known as "Sugar Pie Honey Bunch." This is a cool beat. It's got that real drive to it instead of your traditional backbeat on the snare you just got quarter notes which helps kind of drive it along. You got a little bit of an intro and also one of the signature Motown fills that we'll cover. So a lot of kinda different aspects we'll go over. And yeah, we'll start off in this next clip with the intro which is kind of a more of an open sound. You'll hear just going to kind of some of interplay between the kick and the hi-hat.
