JOEL SIEGEL: All right. So beat three, this is where things get a little different. We have our downbeat in the kick, which is very normal. So beat three, downbeat, kick drum. That's going to be lining up with your ride cymbal 'cause you got those straight eighths--one-and, two-and, three-and okay? And then the other thing that's happening is you have the snare drum not on the downbeat of three, on the upbeat of three, okay? So you have--with, like, the kick and the snare, you have one, two, three-and, okay? Three-and. But also means that you have the ride hitting at the same time as the kick on the downbeat of three, and then same time as the snare on the upbeat of three, okay? So just playing with the continuous ride, playing only beat three. One, two, three, four. One-and, two-and, three-and, four-and; one-and, two-and, three-and, four-and, one. Okay? So that's what's going on as far as your different limbs and how they're interacting. We'll do beat four in this next clip.
