Drums for "Grazin' in the Grass" by Hugh Masekela: Beat 2

JOEL SIEGEL: All right. So beat two, we've just got--we had our beat one in the kick and our beat two just basically responds to that. We have it in the backbeat, in the snare drum, on the downbeat, and we--which means we're going to be playing at the same time as our ride pattern because we have one-and, two-and, right? Two being that downbeat. So, just the continuous timekeeping on the ride and our snare, it sounds like this: one, two-and, three-and, four-and. Add the kick. All right? So there's your two first beats of "Grazin' in the Grass," very simple. Take a look at the next clip. We'll talk about where things get a little bit changed up.
