Drums for "Grazin' in the Grass" by Hugh Masekela: Beat 1

JOEL SIEGEL: All right. So this beat, just like a lot of the pop stuff that we've been doing, it has the straight eights--okay?--in the right hand. And it's not on the high hat this time; it's on the right. So we have one-and, two-and, three-and, four-and...okay? Those are our eighth notes. That's our kind of--that's our time right there; it's in the right hand. We also have--what's been popping up a lot is the kick drum on beat one, okay? So we just have--it's the downbeat so it's going to be hitting on--at the same time, it's the downbeat on the right cymbal, okay? So one, one...one...okay? So with those straight eighth notes, one-and, two-and, three-and, four-and...alright? It's got a few things with the backbeat. Straight beat two is pretty straightforward; we'll cover it in this next clip.
