Hi! My name is Leslie Moselle and we're here at Mickey Quinn's in Seminole, Florida and on behalf of Expert Village, this is how to be a successful server. There is nothing that you can really do to prevent anyone walking out on a check. You can't really tell who's going to walk out on a check. You can have the greatest experience and your customers can be here enjoying their meal, really having a great time, smiling, laughing, and you would never know that they were going to walk out without paying the check. You can also have a table of young kids being rowdy, maybe not be the nicest, but they can be the ones to leave you greatest tip at the end of the night. There really is no way to judge who will leave without paying the check, but there are things you can do as a server to make sure that you're paying close attention and to prevent as much as possible them walking out on you. The few tips that I can give you on how to be a successful server, including on how to prevent people from walking out, is just to try to present he check to your table as soon as possible. As soon as the desserts are given out or the last order is placed, just go ahead and place the check down on the table. That way you kind of time and it seems like they're taking too long. If there's any clues there that there might not be willing to really pay the check, you can kind of give a note to your supervisor and say hey these people are taking a long time and they haven't paid the check yet. Keep an eye on the door. Make sure that no one is getting up to use the restroom without paying the check. Walk back and forth, pace next to your table, and make sure that you're paying attention to the customer. Just know that as long as you're doing as best as you can and you're doing everything you can to provide good customer service, then it's not your fault if someone walks out on a check.
