MARIANE NIELSEN: So we're continuing our look at the really exotic sound of the half-diminished 7th chord. I thought B would be a good example to start with, B to D sharp to F sharp to A sharp 'cause we got three sharps on top. We're going to eliminate one by one. B, D sharp, F sharp, A sharp is the major. We lower the top sharp A sharp to A and we get dominant 7th. We lower the 3rd from D sharp to D when we get minor 7th...and then, we lower the 5th. And we have a perfect example of what we need to play to get a half-diminished 7th chord.
