Hi, we're going to do talk about the basic of street skating which is the ollie. The ollie is the fundamental trick behind all other tricks in skateboarding. However it's often times the most frustrating and it takes the longest to learn for new skaters. To do an ollie place your front foot slightly behind the bolts of the front truck. Place your back foot towards the edge of the tail with half of your toes on the board, half of your toes off. You're going to bend your knees, pop the back tail against the ground. Once you pop your back tail against the ground, slide your front foot at an angle forward. After the pop, sliding your front foot forward will level the board out and lift it off the ground then land and compress your knees. The hardest part of learning this trick is learning how to ollie high and learning how to get a lot of pop. The trick is find a place that you feel balanced and comfortable with your front foot and make sure your back foot is back far enough to give the tail a nice pop instead of a push off of the ground. Remember when sliding your front foot up you're not lifting it off of the board and replacing it but rather bending your foot and sliding it forward to level it out. The key to this trick is to begin sliding your foot as soon as you pop the tail. My feet are firmly planted on the board, my back foot is towards the edge of the tail, my knees are bend. Notice how my foot bend, move forward to level the board out and returned to the position almost to where I started from. You'll start an ollie with your foot in the middle of the board, your back foot on the back of the board and when you land your back foot will be slightly further up on the tail and your front foot will be slightly further up towards the front trucks. Make sure you're stable bend pop, bring the foot up and make sure to compress your legs when you land. Learning how to ollie is the fundamental trick and key to success in modern street skating.
