How to Tie a Heaving Line Bend

Now a heaving line bend is kind of what the name suggests. It's to be able to attach two ropes. A lighter rope to a heavier rope so you can throw the rope and heave it towards like say if you're on a big cruise ship and you need to get a big line to shore to so it can be tied off. You attach a smaller line to it and then toss the smaller line because it's a lot more light weight and easier on the arms. So if you look down at the table you can see I've got me a nice heavyweight rope here that I'm going to be using. I'm, pull my working end out a little bit so I got a nice bend here. Oops there we go, I'm going to take my lighter weight rope and what's its going to do is it's just going to come over the top like so. And I'm going to turn it at a ninety degree angle over one of the ends. I'm just going to loop it through and then back through, so I've created me a nice eye loop over this end here. I'm going to bring it back over and under my other end like so. And then I'll just take it over and through the loop like this and then pull it and basically I've created an overhand bend that splits this rope in two. And pulls it tight and now I can toss my smaller rope and pull along my big heavy rope.
