How to Tie an Adjustable Bend

Now an adjustable bend is a nice bend that you want to put in your rope. If you have two pieces of rope that you really want to attach together. A bend is a type of knot that you put in two ropes, to make sure that you can untie them. It's better than a regular knot, because you, most knots you might have to cut out if you're trying to attach two ropes together, and that's why we use bends. So, here I've got displayed right here, I've got two ropes. What I'm going to do here is they're coming in at opposite angles towards one another. So, I'm going to take this little pull, a little bit more length on this one, and bend it up here. Lie this one over, just going to run this red rope under my blue rope. What I?m going to do is I'm going to twist it, one good time. And I'm going to twist it a second time, as you can see. I'm going to twist it a third time. Let's see if I can pull my rope out straight here, so we can get a nice good view on how this is going to be done. And after I have it pulled out, I'm going to take it and I'm going to pull it up under this standing end that I have here, and I'm going to take this and we'll pull this first loop that I have here and run this line down and run it into it. Now what's going to happen is, I'm going to have to pull this together, trying to keep my first line straight, working this just a little bit, to get a nice good knot in there. Now, this doesn't work so well by itself, so I'll have to pull the same knot in on the other side. So I'll pull a little length here on my blue rope, bend it here, pull it under, wrap it once, and wrap it twice and a third time, trying to keep my rope straight. Pull it a little bit, wrap it for the third time, then wrap it under. And as you can see, I'm going to pull it right here under this first loop that I have here. Put my working in there. Just go ahead and pull my knot into it. I'm going to have to work it just a little bit with my hands. This is going to prove a little bit more difficult than the first one. There we go. We'll just tighten it up, just a bit. There you go, tighten it up to where it looks like a nice good knot. As you can see, this one looks a lot better than my first one. But as you pull them together, usually there's a little slack in it, so when there's a tight jerk on it these two knots can pull together and have a little bit of slack.
