A double figure of eight bend is a type of bend, as well. Most of these bends that use the figure eight style are also know as Flemish bends. A bend, once again, is a way to attach two ropes, in which you can untie them easily. Because, once again, back in the old days, whenever rope was very uncommon, it was very valuable, and something you really needed. Especially if you were on a long sailing trip that took months. So what we've got here is we've got two ropes here. This is all synthetic cord. And the synthetic cord is a lot better, because we don't want to bind it up with natural fiber cord. What we're going to go do here is I'm going to just take the single rope that I've got. And I'm going to tie - I'm going to actually pull a loop into it here. I'm going to loop it over again and pull it through, for a simple figure of eight knot. And I'm going to take my other rope, and I'm just going to slide it through this first bend that I've got going on here. Oops. Slide it through this first bend I've got going on here. And what I want to do is I want to create the same figure of eight knot. Now, what's great about this knot and why it was very- was preferred, is because this is a bilateral symmetrical knot. Meaning that it's the same on both ends, which you know, in the scheme of things, makes it really pretty and eye-catching. So I'm going to go ahead and create this loop here that I'm having trouble doing. And loop it right through. Oops. Not a figure of eight knot. Loop it through here. There we go. Now as we pull this one tight, and we'll pull this one tight, we'll pull these two together, creating a nice double figure of eight.
