How to Choose & Buy a Skateboard

I want to tell you a little bit about the cost of skateboarding. If you're going to start skateboarding, you are going to have to spend a little bit of money. However you don't have to spend as much money as you might think. Let's go part for part and discuss some of the cost of a modern skateboard. You have the wooden skateboard deck which usually runs between $40-$60. You have the bolts which keeps the wheels on which can run anywhere from $3-$8. You have the wheels which usually runs between $20-$25, the trucks which can vary between $15-$30 for a pair. The king pin in an essential part of the truck and it usually only cost $3-$4, the bushings again another essential part but a cheap part it only cost $2-$3 to replace. A modern complete skateboard from a skate or surf shop usually cost anywhere between $100-$130. However when first learning how to skate, it's not necessary that you go out and buy the most expensive skateboard you can find. It's more important that the parts are proper and function properly, if mine a more amateur skateboard make sure that there are no plastic parts. Plastic bearings keep the wheels from rolling smooth, it can break and cause you to stop abruptly and fall. Cheap plastic trucks can also break and cause you to fall. Broken parts mean you have to replace them costing you even more money. Just make sure that you pick a skateboard that suits you and if you pick out a modern skateboard, make sure it's one that you are going to like. Remember you don't have to spend a lot of money to have a good time.
