Basic Skateboard Maintenance

We're talking about skateboarding parts and skateboarding maintenance. And we're going to talk a little bit about a commonly over looked part of skateboarding maintenance and that is keeping necessary parts greased or oiled and keeping your skateboard clean. One important part that must be greased and oiled is the bearings of the wheels. To oil the bearings remove them as you normally would, soak them over night or for several hours in a oil or lubricant base solution. Then remove them dry them off and replace them. However it's not necessary to oil your actual axle as this oil can travel down the axle, get on your wheel and can cause you to slip. The most important thing is that the oil or lubricant penetrates the bearing to the inner balls. Keeping the outside dry and grease free is the key. Another part of skateboarding maintenance is keeping everything clean. You want to check for dirt, rust and accumulation of soil around your wheels, around your nut and especially around the nuts that hold the bolts that attach the bolts to your head. Checking for rust spots and replacing rusted out nuts can prevent you from having a truck loosen up or fall off while riding and prevent serious injury. So remember keep your bearing soaked and greased up at all times, never put grease directly on the axle and always check for dirt and rust accumulation on parts of the skateboard necessary to its function.
