Hi! I am Joe Palanzo from the World Wide Kenpo Karate Association in conjunction with Expert Village. This self-defense technique that we just did is called clutching feathers and it is a defense against someone pulling your hair. I do not have a lot of hair, but to demonstrate before I am yanked forward, I am going to try to trap here and drop down and take a middle finger fist, which is formed like this, and strike in the space, that is in the armpit and as soon as I do that, it stretches him out a bit it makes a little difficult for him to punch me with his right hand. Now I want to clear this off, what I do is, I drop the heel palm here to clear and I want to make a circle this way and strike with a traditional outward block right to the nerves here at the elbow. So we go from here, clear to here and I chambered his hand back in the position where I can get some real force. As I go to the forward bow and heel palm in the face this rotates to an extended outward block, which helps set up for the next move and also releases my shoulder so I can really get some force here. So again the flow of this is going from here, to here, to here and back to here. This is clutching feathers.
