How to Rock in a Wheelchair Wheelie

KEVIN BARRETT: Okay, now that you're not afraid to fall, and you actually can balance now, now you're going to actually have to start rocking and really get the feel for it because at first, you're only going to be able to do it for a second or two before you actually fall back down. So, here we go, we're up and we're going, right? Now, you're going to want to just keep trying to beat your time. Now, the way that we did this at the amusement park is a couple of us would have different wheelchairs and we just try and outdo each other and see who could stay up the longest. I remember one time I actually stayed up for two hours. Yeah, we weren't working for like two hours. We're like just sitting here trying to do this unicycle, I mean, wheelchair thing. So, now, we're up and you want to count out, count out to 20 seconds. That's actually really hard to do when you first start out. So, you want to make sure that you can rock and hold it for 20 seconds. Now, the rock is actually just trying to find that sweet spot. Now, the sweet spot, as experts call, is where you find that spot that you barely have to do any work, okay. That's where you just found a perfect balance between your legs and your back, on these two wheels. Now, you notice that this is no really no effort for me, but when you start it's going to be really hard because you're going to be going back too far, you're going to be going forward too far, and you're going to keep falling either way. So, once you find that sweet spot, try and rock right there. Okay, now, the rocking is just back and forth. Make sure that you keep both hands rocking at the same time; otherwise, you're going to start spinning around. And when you're just learning that's really not easy to do. So, you've gone for 20 seconds now, rocking just like this, right? Now, move it up to 30 seconds, 40 seconds. Do a minute. Do two minutes, alright? Before you know it, you're going to have that sweet spot so good you could sit here for hours. Okay, sometimes I just sit in front of my TV and watch movies sitting like this. So once you figure it out, it's going to be very easy and then you're going to be able to move on to the next step.
