How to Recognize the Offense in a 5-3 Football Defense

Hi, I'm Billy Kidd, I'm here at Expert Village and we're going to talk about the five-three defense. Again, that comes down to your personnel, what kind of personnel do you have, where can you put them on your line so that they can best make plays, what kind of speed do they have, what kind of quickness do they have, what kind of strength do they have, what kind of intelligence do they have, are they going to be able to execute what you're drawing up for them to do. But, the five-three defense, is a defense that again, you're going to create to keep everybody in the middle here, you're going to fill all the gaps, you're going to step up and make plays and keep the offense from advancing the ball by running it. Now, if the offense decides that they want to start throwing the ball then you're going to have to get to a defense that better allows you to get in coverage to cover pass plays. This is not the defense for it. You've got to many bigger guys out here that aren't athletic enough to run and cover the field and cover receivers.
