Hi, I'm Billy Kidd, I'm here at Expert Village and we're going to talk about five-three defense. With the five-three defense you've got this nose tackle that you're pretty much always going to give a side to with this linebacker right here. When I say that, offenses are usually given gap assignments. You've got the A gap, a B gap and a C gap. An A gap, a B gap and a C gap. So, you're going to work a gap with the nose tackle, either the front side A or backside A or your weak side A, strong side A, however you determine which side it is, left A or right A, it doesn't matter, but you're going to give that nose tackle that assignment and that's where he's going to control and maintain the line of scrimmage. This linebacker would be responsible for the other gap. With your defensive tackle pretty much you're always going to give them this inside B gap on both sides and with you're defensive ends you're going to give them this outside contained. With you're other two inside linebackers their responsibility is pretty much always going to be that C gap, that gap between the tackle and the tight end.
