How to Tackle Safety in Football

VINCENT JAMAL: I'm Vincent on behalf of Expert Village. Now, what we're going to go over is tackling and contact safety. Probably one of the biggest injury causers of football is helmet-to-helmet contact. So guys, very slowly, we'll just come together and kinda show what helmet to helmet looks like. I'll give Brian the ball. And basically, if Brian's protecting himself with his tuck like he does, Chris does not want to come through and lead with his helmet to helmet. This is very dangerous for both players. It can cause a variety of grade concussions and will put you out for quite sometime so you want to avoid the helmet to helmet contact. The other is spearing. Spearing will go with just a spear block. So we'll have Chris come down and emulate a spear. And with the head down, you can instantly paralyze yourself and often cause death. This is something you absolutely want to avoid. And it goes with catching the ball. You can't catch what you can't see so you definitely want to make sure you look at what you're tackling. So you want to make sure that your head is up. Yeah, that's--I cannot express this enough. So let's go ahead and show them one more time the helmet to helmet. Very dangerous to lead that way. And the spear. And the last one that we'll go through. Chris can you trail BK? And we're going to look at horse collaring which is now becoming an outlawed thing. So we're going to walk through it, go ahead and walk. Chris is going to grab inside of the pads that BK is strapped into and basically pull him straight down. Now, what that does is this will pull BK's weight back on his ankle. His ankle is strapped and he's got nowhere to go. This causes a variety of breaks, high-ankle sprains and if you have long cleats like we discussed earlier, you can really tear some ligaments up in your knee. So really take care to have fun playing the game but do it safely.
