How to Sew Elastic on a Headband

Hi, I'm Karina Fraley for Expert Village and we are almost done with our headband here. So I've gone ahead and pulled the elastic through and you want to make sure that you hold onto both ends because there's nothing more frustrating than letting go of one end or the other and it slipping out from under you. So this one has a safety pin and I'm going to go ahead and make sure first of all, that my elastic is laying flat so that when it is on the head, it's nice and flat and that's fine. Okay, so I'm going to go ahead and open up this safety pin on this side and then I'm going to make sure that this elastic is laying flat and I'm going to go ahead and pin that through. Put the pin through and make sure that you give yourself plenty of overlap room because we're going to go ahead and sew. So you want enough room from the end of this new piece of elastic that you're feeding through to the safety pin because we're going to go right ahead and stitch right along there. So go ahead and put your elastic under your needle, put the foot down. Make sure that you're not going to feed the safety pin under the needle and break your needle. You're just going to start with just a straight stitch and you're going to go ahead and do a back stitch to create a knot and then go all the way along. When you get to the end, go ahead and do a back stitch, then pick up the foot, cut the thread and then we're going to go ahead and cut any loose threads that are on our elastic. Now you can go ahead and now you can pull the safety pin out because you're not going to need that anymore and you put that there. Alright, we're going to go ahead and clean that all up and next we're going to finish our headband by sewing ends together. So we'll see you at the next clip and I'll show you how.
