Hi, I'm Dr. Garrett Smith for Expert Village and the exercise we're about to cover is called the straight leg sit up. Basic positioning, as in the name, your legs are going to be straight for the sit up. This is a relatively advanced form of sitting up. Important thing, first, we're going to try to flatten the back to the ground. I pull my toes up, it helps give me a little more strength. Then, just like the name says, we're going to sit up. There is not a big kick at the start, momentum starting at the start. Some of you who have done Pilates, maybe are familiar with their version where they have their arms over their head and they use their arms to help them come up. We're not going to use that extra momentum here. First, you flatten your back against the ground so that somebody couldn't slide their hand under, reach for your feet, curl the head, body, and then reach for the toes. Hopefully, this also helps your flexibility, it's like a toe touch in between each one. You start going back, roll the back down to the mat, and there. Again, back flattens against the ground, pull up, then we come past the feet, roll back down. One last one. Again, pull the toes up, back flattens. You can see I'm getting tired, these are pretty tough. Then we come back and we're down. A lot of people don't know that exercise except from Pilates where they use their arms. This is a version where we just don't use our arms. What I call the straight leg sit up.
