Hi! This is Patti Billings. I am a certified pediatric nurse practitioner on behalf of expertvillage.com. On this clip, we are going to talk about immunization recommendations. Immunization recommendations are set by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the center for disease control in the United States and the recommendations are pretty universal throughout the United States. Children who are in childcare in particular should be immunized against the diseases that we can only prevent by immunizations. These diseases have the same common characteristic that we really can’t treat them well. The best option is to prevent them. These are primarily viral illnesses that we see very few complications from anymore because of our immunizations. So, it is important, especially if a child is going to be in childcare, to make sure they are immunized as well as the other children in the childcare setting. Flu immunization is recommended for children six months to five years old as a high risk group. So children who are especially are in a day care setting and are exposed to multiple children, should have an influenza vaccine as well particularly if they have any chronic illnesses.
