I'm Jamal Spencer for Expert Village here at ABC 3 here in Lansing and we're going to talk about how to be a successful sports broadcaster. This topic is about how to dress. Now sports writers and sportscasters, sports broadcasters, we're a pretty loose bunch. You know a lot of us don't really care how we look. You can always tell who works in what market because the newspaper guys can show up in t-shirt and shorts because, hey, they're not going to be on camera. You know the radio guys will show up in whatever they want because they're not going to be on camera. But if you're going to try to get into television, you want to dress professional. You can either wear a polo and khakis or slacks and some dress shoes or you can wear a shirt and tie. It's very critical to look the part because if you go to interview somebody and they say this guy looks like a bum they won't take you seriously and they might not answer your questions. They'll think that you're just there. You're someone's intern. But if you want to be taken seriously you have to dress the part with a shirt and a tie and some slacks. In some situations you can get away with wearing a shirt, a tie and some jeans. But the main thing is to dress business casual or in business attire if you want to be successful. Everyone in the industry does it. Obviously, you can tell the TV guys from the newspaper guys. But if you want to be successful you have to dress successful. That's very key if you want to be a successful sportscaster.
