Hi! I am Angela on behalf of expertvillage.com, and right now I will be discussing a proper posture for cooking and working in the kitchen. It is inevitable when you are working in the kitchen that you are going to be bending over a lot and the back is going to bend, but right now I am going to show you ways to prevent your back from bending too much and constantly; because often people that are working in the kitchen suffer from lower back pain right here from all the bending and lifting things out of the oven that are heavy in weight. So right now I have something in the oven; and ordinarily a lot of people will open the oven and lean forward like this and bend their backs drastically. A way that you can prevent this is to open the oven and go to the side, and that way I do not have to bend as much and also the heat is not going in my face. So lifting it this way and placing it onto the counter is much easier than bending all the way over like this and lifting it, and then bending it and placing it on the counter. Another thing that you can do, another technique, is to be conscious of your posture while you are working on the stove, something that is on the back burner. A lot of people are likely to lean forward like this instead, whereas if I have proper posture and my neck is up, I can see it from right here and my back is straight, my neck is relatively straight and that is less straining. And these are ways to prevent back injury and poor posture while working in the kitchen.
