Emphasizing the Need to Interpret Pictures

Hi, I'm Ann Kennedy on behalf of Expert Village and we'll be looking at correcting common problems in children. What young readers need to know. How to interpret and find details in pictures. Some of my favorite books for this is simply as simple as I spy a soccer ball. Can you find the soccer ball in this picture? There's all kinds of I Spy books. Another really, really good concept that they have more of today is the story of let's say The Three Little Pigs. There is something else in the story, can you guess what? On every page there is a pot to spot. So as we look at the pages, we don't forget that there's a pot to spot. Can you find the pot for me as you're reading? There it is. These kinds of activities are so, so, so important and as a child gets into math and science along with literature and reading, to find the details as the details in life make all the difference in the world in how to read. So how to match illustrations and pictures with text, as we went through and spoke about it before so it's looking for details and trying to sound out the words and does the picture and text make sense? So those are a few more things that young readers need to know.
