Understanding Colors & Reading Problems

Hi, I'm Ann Kennedy on behalf of Expert Village and we'll be looking at correcting common problems in children. Common problems to help young readers, let's see some examples. It's important first of all that you know colors. You may think that your child has no problem at all with colors, it's very very important to understand colors. They're going to see them in every book cover in every story. It's easy to make a little book if they have problems. Orange foods, we use foods again. What I did is showed the word orange, printed it in orange as a pumpkin and they may draw a pumpkin. Orange and then show a carrot and it's orange again. Look what I'm doing, I'm saying the word orange, I'm showing, I'm writing it. In case they have problems with say the word orange, orange cheese. Get involved. The color red, the colors are very very important, there's really a lot of common problems with children not being able to separate colors and that interns they can't separate the moods of the characters of the story. Even the color red, you write it, you have your child with a red crayon even scribble red so you know it. Then you find foods and we say it. They can either pick it out, you can do it for them, with them. Red apple. Red tomato. You're showing another concept, red strawberry. Another important concept children have problems with is shapes, shapes that relate. A lot of times they can't explain what their problems are because they don't understand shapes, even when you're having a slice of pizza. Define what the shape is or even a pepperoni, it's a circle and that's what a shape is. So these common problems is a ball, looks like a wheel. Some of the problems your children have with reading has to do with colors; defining them, understanding them and shapes.
