How to Add Background in iStopMotion
iStopMotion is a registered trademark of Boinx software, and I am in no way affiliated with Boinx software. In this clip, I'm going to teach you how to add a background to your animation in iStopMotion. If you notice, I have my character here in the foreground, and in the background I've draped a cloth in the back. It's kind of a bright orange color. Usually a bright green or a bright blue works well, but just make sure that it's different from the color of anything you want in your foreground. Make sure you have your compositing tab down here in the bottom right selected. Come up to the background tab at the top right. I'm going to select the coast image. This is just a default. Click set as background. After you choose your background image, you're going to want to come here to the bottom and select pick color. You're going to pick the color of your background, which is the bright orange here. I'm going to click there. It's going to make your character appear in the foreground with your image you selected in the background. There's a couple of other options you can adjust if you come down to the gear here at the bottom right. You can have it auto detect your color, but I'm going to click advanced settings. It's going to take you to a screen that looks like this. From here, you can auto detect your color or you can choose the color as well. You've got a range and a feather slider. You can play with the range to kind of make some of what you don't want to appear disappear. The feather slider is going to change the blur between your colors, between the foreground and background. You can play around with these until you get it how you want it. If you want to remove your background, all you have to do is come over to the remove background button and click there. If you want, you can add some of your own images by clicking on source just like you can do with foreground, and then choose the folder and add whatever image you want in the background as well. That's how you add a background to you animation.
