How to Use a Tile Saw for Mosaic Projects
Hi, my name is Faith and I’m here at Flat Fork Studio, and I’m going to show you how to use a tile saw. Also, I’m going to make an attempt to cut this rooster in half because I’d like to have part of this for a mosaic project that I’m doing.
So first of all, this is the tile saw you can get at Home Depot. They’re about $89, they’re very inexpensive and easy to use. They have a diamond grit blade on it. And as far as proper operation- this is called a wet tile saw, so there’s a pan of water. You want to go ahead and fill it up to at least the minimum level- the lines are here on the tray. So go ahead and fill that up with water, slide it in, and you’re ready to cut. You also want a pair of goggles for eye protection, so I’ll go ahead and put those on. And you have an on switch…this also has an adjustment so say if I want to cut an angle, I can loosen up this bolt here, and I can slide it, say if I want an angle cut. Go ahead and straighten that back up, tighten it down. And turn it on.
Okay, looking at this piece…this piece looks a little bit cumbersome so I’m going to go ahead and try to cut some of this off real quick. You just slide it across, firm pressure, makes a nice smooth cut, kind of ground that down. Next I’m going to make an attempt to cut him in half as best as I can. Look at that…great. And you can continue cutting to get the half piece. And that’s how you use the tile saw.
