How to Paint a Clay Figurine Sculpture

JORGE BENLLOCH: Now, we are going to use any spray paint, and this also is going to reinforce the figurine itself as much paint we put because those paints they are acrylic. They give this kind of extra strength because it's like layer of plastic, okay, when it dries, where there is often--give this strength to the clay that avoids chipping and cracking. Now, I'm going to do that, okay. Well, always do that with a very well-ventilated area or outside, like a--we do not wear our mask. This is very toxic and flammable. Then take care of that. This is the final product that--yeah, it looks cool. Of course, you can do that masking the face and the hands and paint it by hand, all the details you want. This is just to show you how to develop a figurine in a very easy way, a self-supporting figurine that it don't needs to--to put it in the kiln. It's self-drying with regular clay. That's why we use all these coatings in order to protect chipping and breaking. We have to let it dry. One of the things that sometimes I forget to say is that when you finish the figurine, you have to take it out of the structure that we used in order to support the wet clay and then let it dry for, at least, five days, one week and after that, start putting all the coatings one after another and 'til then, 'til the final paint coating.
