How to Deal with Old Nails When Rebuilding a Chair

Ok, now we have the seat glued up; and it?s off to the side here drying. I'm going to put our pad back down, but before you pad the down - I've already done this - you have to look all around your bench and see if any glue drips are left. So once you've made sure your surface here is clean of old glue, put the pad back down. Now that we have the pad back down, we're ready to start disassembling the chair. Now one thing about an old chair that you'll have to watch for is nails. On this chair, somebody came and thought they were repairing it and they drove little nails through the joints. These will have to be taken out or dealt with before you can take the chair apart. So, if you do find some nails and they're just little bitty nails, most times they can be defeated simply by pounding on the chair and letting the nail bend in the joint and then you take it out with some pliers. If its a bigger nail, it'll have to be taken out from the outside and we can talk about that in a while. This chair has the nails removed so we're going to start with the disassembly.
