Wind the Guitar String to Lock it into the Guitar

MATT GRAHAM: Okay. So, we've bent the string around itself to lock it in place. I'll review that real quick. We came around or clockwise underneath the string and then back over. And now, you can actually come back around the post to create tension there. And now, we're going to begin to wind the string and you're going to make the--whichever way you turn your peg, for most guitars, it's going to be you're turning the peg to the left or counter-clockwise and also the tuning post will be spinning counter-clockwise. And if you can see right here where that string is wrapped around itself, as you turn it, the string is actually going to lock down on itself right there. And then as you come around on the first pass, this other part of the string that's sticking out, you're going to make sure and put the string underneath it as you come around, just like that.
