What to Check before Test Driving a New Car

CATHY DROZ: I'm Cathy D. BILL ZERVAKOS: And I'm Bill Z. with Two for The Road USA on behalf of Expert Village. Now we know you're excited about jumping in your car and taking the road test. But there are a couple of things you need to do before you do that. This clip will talk about some of those. You know it's very important to make sure that you feel comfortable in a car. It's easy to get in and out of, and you can get in the seats. Make sure that the adjustments are all where you can reach 'em. And again, it could be for you and a significant other, so it has to work for both. Make sure the steering wheel adjust the way you want it, the seats work the way you want it. Make sure that the center console is functional, cup holders, those things that are kind of great on you if they aren't what you expect. So take a look at those things. Open the center console. Make sure that it works. Then when you're sitting behind the wheel, before you take the car out, see how the controls feel, how the ergonomics are, if they lay out properly, are if they're easy to reach, do they make sense. These are all things that we find people have tested cars and comeback after having 'em 6, 8, 9 months, or a year, and been uncomfortable with. And find out where all the controls are 'cause on new ones there are a lot of controls. They're on the left side of the steering wheel, down on the dash. So just look at all those things, it's critically important before you take it out on the road. Hey, if you're happy with what you just checked out, then come on, let's go on a test drive.
