How to Research for Buying a New Car

CATHY DROZ: And I'm Cathy D. BILL ZERVAKOS: And I'm Bill Z with Two for the Road USA on behalf Expert Village. So at this point, we've assumed that you've found the car you want. Now it's time to do a little research. We're on a website here called Cars.com, but you have MSN.com, you have Yahoo. There are several that you can look it, but this is where you begin the search. So Cathy, take us through the steps here. CATHY DROZ: Well, let's say I've decided I'm going to purchase a 2008 Ford Focus. I go into this site in particular and I put in that information. In the buying, this is what I want to buy, brand new car. BILL ZERVAKOS: Okay, so can you put in something that you might have been looking at or you thought you may have wanted? CATHY DROZ: You might want to compare the things that you really want in a Ford Focus, so whether it is a sunroof, maybe a navigation system, you're going to find two other vehicles possibly, put in those same type of features and functions that you want and see when it comes out. BILL ZERVAKOS: So what you're saying, basically, is you want to compare apples to apples. CATHY DROZ: Definitely, definitely, apples to apples. So at least, you really are convinced that you made the right choice. And then, you can certainly get some pricing and at this point, as long as you are already on the internet, you might want to go to Kelly Blue Book to see what you're trade is worth. That is if you have a trade. BILL ZERVAKOS: Absolutely. KBB.com is a good website. In our next clip, we're actually going to talk about what goes on at the dealership.
