Breaking Up Routines to Reduce Fatigue Symptoms

DR. SUSAN JEWELL: Hello. My name is Dr. Susan Jewell and on behalf of Expert Village today, I'm going to talk to you about how to recognize fatigue and how to reduce the symptoms of fatigue. Now, in this clip, I'm going to talk to you about ways that you can do to alleviate some of the symptoms of fatigue or frequency. Now, one of the things is that most people spend their daily hours in the office, nine to five, and they're sitting in front of the computer or at the desk, and they're doing repetitive work, especially people who do repetitive work. And they're staring at the computer and then that alone would induce chronic fatigue syndrome. So, to alleviate that, then I suggest that you actually do your workload, break it up into small segments, small period at a time, so like for example every 20 minutes maybe you should just get up and stretch and yawn and walk around, or spend 10 to 20 minutes to 10 to 15 minutes to do something, a different set of work, so that you don't just keep doing the same repetitive activity throughout the day because that would actually put you more prone to getting fatigue. And another thing is it's also good that you have a vacation now and then. Whether it's a short term vacation for, like for a day or so, take off work, or you can go for a week or so for a vacation somewhere where you totally relax and not think about work, not think about all the stresses of daily life and in that way, it would also give you positive energy, it will reenergize you, and therefore it will help you to overcome the symptoms of fatigue. And so, these are just some of the ways that you could try to adapt or change your lifestyle in the way that you think that would help you to reduce the frequency of getting fatigue or in some people who experienced chronic fatigue syndrome.
