Rhyming: Advanced Music Theory & Songwriting
Hey! I am Mark Black and welcome to expertvillage.com and we are going to be talking about advanced theory in song writing. Another point is you can decide to rhyme or not and now there is currently sort of anti-rhyming thing. Lots of people rhyme and lots of people do not. Just to mention is the one good thing about rhyming is that there is a symmetry about knowing, me and Joey went down to town and then, we went round and round; You know I am not trying to make a song, I am just trying to say I know I got to get back to that syllable at the end of the line and that the listener knows that and follows that and it brings a unity to the song, is that better or worse? No, it is just a point. Do you want that unity or do you not? Another idea is poetry versus prose. A poetry is artistic language and so I say instead of I went to town to look for a job, I say, I went to the highways and byways and sought you know for a way to alleviate my suffering. That is a poetic, not very good, but that is a poetic way of speaking. Prose is the way we normally speak and part of your communication in terms of lyric is the way that you are speaking. Are you speaking in a prosaic or normal way of speaking that makes your song seem earnest or gutsy like a rap song for example, would very infrequently use poetic language? One of the things you get from it is this is street people talking, I mean we are talking about real life and then typically we will classify let us say a classical song is having that artistic language.
