Importance of Eye Contact in Body Language

DR. MICHELLE COHEN: You've heard the expression that the eyes tell it all. Well, that is so true, and this is always been the case especially in communicating with someone else. So, here are some of the ideas that you have to think about when you're communicating with someone. If you want to indicate romantic interest, you stare at someone gently and you keep your glance on them. Something physiologically that happens that shows interest if the pupils usually dilate when you're sexually attracted to someone or you're showing great interest in them. So, remember that as well. If you're not interested in someone, you'll avert your glance. You'll look around. You'll show boredom. You'll do signs of looking around, looking up. Also, be aware that that indicates fatigue. Your eyes, of course, may close and you may just sit back and kinda roll your head back and look tired. So, there are so many signals you can give out with your eyes. So, you have to be aware of what you're putting out. Of course, interest, again, showing that you're really focused on the person and that you want to listen to them even if you may not, you look directly at them and you can nod your head. The eyes do tell it all. And people really do read eyes. This is a very subconscious thing. We do it all the time. This is the most obvious nonverbal way of communicating and understanding someone is through their eyes. So, always keep that in mind, when you're trying to make a really good impression. If you don't care, then go ahead and look away, look bored. Have your eyes squinted like you're judging someone. Whatever you want to convey, know it's going to come through your eyes, and people really do pick that up. So, keep that in mind that the eyes do tell it all.
