Saxophone Warm-Up Routines
For expertvillage.com this is Mitch Kaplan. In this clip we will be talking about warmups for the alto sax. The best way to approach this is by doing air, increasing the volume of air through your horn then decreasing it and then again air. That is a very good one for working on your lower stomach and producing a sound. The next warmup you would want to try out is probably maybe fingering techniques. Fingering techniques are important because it allows you to think about your music and use it and when you are improvising if you are a jazz musician. And you can also get ready for classical because classical involves a lot of scales and thirds. The next warmup you might want to do is whole tones. Whole tones are very important for producing sound. You want to have a great sound as a saxophonist. So you can go up a scale or down a scale like so and that is a great warmup for the saxophone.
