Ceramics & Pottery: Removing Pots From the Wheel

Hi! My name is Vincent Sansone and I am the head of the Ceramics Department here at Crealde School of Art in Winter Park. Today for Expert Village I am going to show you how to remove a pot from the potter’s wheel. I have just finished making this pot and now I am going to trim a beveled edge at the bottom to give the pot some visual lift and also to give it a very crisp line at the bottom of the pot. Then once I have done that, I locate my wire and I cut the pot off the potter’s wheel, make sure that I dry my hands off and then I can twist the pot off the wheel and set it down.
