How to Play Tam O'Shanter Solitaire

Hi, this is Antonia Hoyland, on behalf of Expert Village. This game is called Tam O'Shanter. Tam O'Shanter has one of the biggest advantages in the solitaire manual card playing game world. It's extremely easy to set up. It takes one deck of cards with no jokers. Deal four cards in a row. That's the entire setup. Directly above those four cards go spaces for your four foundations. The foundations are built up ace to king, but they don't follow any particular suite, only by value. This game would seem exceedingly easy but for one very strict rule. When you deal cards from the stockpile onto your four auxiliary piles, you have to deal them all together. You can't deal one and then put it on there. You have to deal four at a time. Always four at a time. This makes the game a lot more interesting. When your stockpile runs out, you can gather up all your waste piles and form a new stockpile. This procedure may be done twice. It's not likely that you're going to win this game in one shot, but it's fast and it's quick to set up, so you can play numerous times, and maybe in the time it would take you to set up one regular old solitaire game.
