I'm Don Varney of Varney Speaks and on behalf of Expert Village. Today we're going to talk about the interview process. The next thing you need to know is what you really want. You need to really know what you want before you walk into that interview. The interviewer knows what they want. They're looking for someone to fill a position, do a job that's been listed in the newspaper, listed on the websites, or sent out to the head hunters. They know what they want. You need to know exactly what it is you want out of this interview. One of the things that happen sometimes with people over the years my experience has taught me is that they almost come in sometimes as a subordinate. Remember something very important. The interviewer is there to interview you to potentially hire you for a position with the company that they work for. When you come in, you can't be a subordinate to the interviewer. You have to kind of position yourself as an equal. You have a right to ask questions, you have a right to be involved, you have a right to talk to them, but on the same token, you need to let them run the interview, unless the question is tell me something. That allows you then to open up and kind of go with it. You've got to number one, good eye contact. Number two, good handshake. Number three, consider yourself an equal in this interview, which allows you then to be more comfortable and more secure in who you are.
