Hi! My name is Vincent Sansone. I am the head of the Ceramics Department here at Crealde School of Art in Winter Park. Today for Expert Village I am going to show you how to make a pinch pot. This is the way the clay comes when you buy it from the local supplier. This was originally 25 pounds of clay in this brick shape. I am going to take a little bit of this clay off here and show you how to make a small pinch pot. Now, first of all I need to shape this into a ball of clay. The longer you handle the clay the more moisture comes out of it so it will start to get dry and crack as you stretch the clay, but I have got water here in case I need to add a little bit of water to it. So I am going to have it in a ball like this and usually since I am right-handed I hold it in my right hand and then I use my thumb to push into the center of the ball and you have to squeeze the clay evenly, rhythmically as you turn it in your hand.
Thank you so much for your informative, easy-to-follow videos. The hard work and effort you go to in order to show us all these basics is greatly appreciated! So much better than a book, and we were able to have everyone in our family...from young child to grandparents...follo w along!
