How to Prepare Your Paper or Other Surface for Stamping

What we're going to talk about today is cutting and scoring your paper. You're anxious to get home and get started on your project, but there's right and wrong to do these things. The first thing you want to do is open up your scoring blade, your scorer. Scoring blades are usually black and the cutting blades are usually orange. I always mark mine with the date. That way you'll always have cuts that are nice and clean and smooth. If we're going to cut with big paper. If I'm going to use a 12x12 piece of paper, I need to take the scoring blade out because this arm needs the whole 12 inches to cut. Let's go ahead and cut this in half. Half of 12 is of course, 6 inches. Again, when I cut, I like to pull the scoring blade towards me. I have it in my hand and just pull one slice right down. I'm going to go ahead and cut this again at 3 inches because we're going to make some cute little 3x3 cards. Now I'm ready to score. I'm going to put my scoring blade back in. The way you put these scoring blades back in is on each arm is a little bit different. There's a little hole at the top where this will slip in and then just pushes down. The same with the scoring blade. Slip it in and push it down. I usually keep my cutting blade on top and my scoring blade on the bottom, but that's totally a person thing that you can decide for yourself.
