Hi! I am Vincent Sansone, Director of the Ceramics Department here at Crealde School of Art here in Winter Park. Today for Expert Village I am going to show you how to make a pot like this one here. I have already opened this piece of clay, but now I have to thin the walls to make it the same size as the other pot. So, I keep the surface of the clay moist, so that it doesn’t drag in my fingers as I put pressure on the wall to make it thinner. I am using the foot pedal at a certain speed, so that I can move my hands up at the same speed until I get to the top and this will take two or three passes to get the shape. Each time I touch the clay, the clay has a tendency to go off center, so I have to keep re-centering as I go. One more time and it should be big enough. Now, smooth the surface off using this metal rib. Okay, the only thing left to do here is to make the shelf that the lid sits on. Straighten that up again. Alright.
